MONUMENT OF DONORS(Barcelona, 2004)

The Monument it’s an honoring structure create to the donor of human organs and must of all to the family of the donors. There are two types of donor, the one that is done by own will, in life; and the one who dies mainly in car or motorcycle accidents, is a donor after death. At this moment of deep pain when a family loses a member, the doctors explain that the body can be donated.

With it I want to make clear that the monument is not only to the voluntary donor, it is also a place for all those families that in one of the worst moments of their lives had the great courage and generosity of donating the body of someone they love.

The monument is the place to remember a person who is not here anymore. And furthermore for the transplanted that has the necessity to find a place to communicate his infinite gratitude to the donor, because thanks to him this person continues enjoying life. The parents of the donors need a spiritual place to relieve and to value the effort that means to take such a transcendent decision.

The Monument wants to materialize the generous act of donate a family body. Also it wants to be a place where, transplanted, these persons who live thanks to the altruistic gesture of anonymous people could be grateful periodically to these donors.

The monument is the will to create a place of gratefulness, a place where the calmness invites to think deeply.

We are talking of creating an emotional architecture, which transmits feelings and which shelters others. It’s design to be an aesthetic and modern place that will help to connect emotions and express gratitude to anonymous and missing human beings.
