In Holland it’s always raining and that means that people can not meet on squares and seat or wait on a wooden bench for their partners, friends, or simply spend time enjoying fresh air, like we do in Spain. That makes me think that people need a square that can handle bad weather (like rain, cold and dark days) and still be an open space, a place to meet, to play, to share, to dance…Therefore I designed a place for develop a lot of activities at the same time, helping people to feel together, with the idea that the square doesn’t belong to one specific group, and most importantly to feel warm all the time.
Red solar energy modules are covering both sides of the form to increase the contact –surface with the sun light. The solar energy is the unique source of sustainable energy in this project. The body of the form had been built by special kind of mud which conserves the high temperature for a long time. An elastic, texture is covering the inside face of the form which allows to see the light effects and gives the sense of warmth, dryness and softness.
